do I need to get my Fiber Optics certification? |

Optical fiber is central
to the successful operation of a wide variety of high-speed
communications applications. Two large initiatives are
driving demand to the everyday consumer FTTD (Fiber to
the Desktop) and FTTH (Fiber to the Home). Internet Bandwidth
should continue to drive the demand for new fiber. A rapid
growth in computer, local and wide area networks has created
an increased demand for technicians to design, install,
maintain and troubleshoot the fiber optic cabling networks.
What does this mean? It means the continued growth and
demand for Fiber Optics Technology.
Recently, three of the nation's largest telecommunications
service providers - BellSouth, SBC Communications, and
Verizon Communications took a major step toward building
super-fast fiber optic lines directly to homes and businesses.
They adopted a set of common technical requirements based
on established industry standards and specifications for
fiber to the premises (FTTP) technology used to connect
homes and businesses to telecomm networks. Many communication
technologies have claimed to meet our future bandwidth
demands, but few have. Optical fiber is a true exception.
