Fiber Optics Certifications

Infotec is one of the leading providers of fiber optics training in Hampton Roads area of Virginia. We offer classroom hands-on and custom fiber optic training courses throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Infotec/ETA Certified Fiber Optics Installer, Technician and Designer programs provide detailed instruction and practice of fiber optic installation techniques, fiber optic troubleshooting techniques, and Local Area Network fiber optic design. Successful completion of these programs will result in the trainee being certified from Electronics Technicians Association and awarded a Certificate of Completion from Infotec.
Why do I need to get my Fiber Optics certification?
Optical fiber is central to the successful operation of a wide variety of high-speed communications applications. Two large initiatives are driving demand to the everyday consumer FTTD (Fiber to the Desktop) and FTTH (Fiber to the Home). Internet Bandwidth should continue to drive the demand for new fiber. A rapid growth in computer, local and wide area networks has created an increased demand for technicians to design, install, maintain and troubleshoot the fiber optic cabling networks. What does this mean? It means the continued growth and demand for Fiber Optics Technology.
Recently, three of the nation's largest telecommunications service providers - BellSouth, SBC Communications, and Verizon Communications took a major step toward building super-fast fiber optic lines directly to homes and businesses. They adopted a set of common technical requirements based on established industry standards and specifications for fiber to the premises (FTTP) technology used to connect homes and businesses to telecomm networks. Many communication technologies have claimed to meet our future bandwidth demands, but few have. Optical fiber is a true exception. This is the reason why you and your employees need to get their Fiber Optics Certifications.
Fiber Optics Certification Course Descriptions
ETA Certified Fiber Optics Installer
Infotec offers a 24-hour Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) Certified Fiber Optics Installer (CFOI) training program. This course is intended to provide a more in-depth study of the topics related to Fiber Optics Installer Certification. Students will be introduced to Fiber Optics to help them establish a basic understanding of the fiber optics industry and its technology, common terminology, fiber optic theory, and fiber optic components. In addition, students will construct fiber optic connectors using Standard Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) connectors, test fiber optic connectors, splices, and cables in accordance with telecommunication industry standards. Build and test fiber cables and components using Standard Mechanical Splices and learn appropriate techniques for Fusion Splicing and testing fiber optic cables with an OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer).

ETA Certified Fiber Optics Mil Standard
This 8-hour module addresses the general criteria for using military fiber optic components. Students will be provided guidance on installation, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems in accordance with MIL-STD-2042B. In addition, they will terminate Single Terminus (ST), Multiple Terminus (MT) and Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) SC connectors in accordance with MIL-STD-2042B. It is highly recommended that students complete the equivalent to CET105, or be certified as a Fiber Optics Installer, before taking this Module. This module, when taken in conjunction with CET105 Certified Fiber Optics Installer, is identified as CET107 Military Fiber Optics Installation Professional.
